Suspected US Drone Attack Kills 6 in Pakistan

Pakistani intelligence officials say a missile attack by a suspected U.S. drone aircraft has killed at least six people in northwestern Pakistan.

Authorities say the Sunday attack destroyed a house in North Waziristan, a tribal area on the Afghan border.

The area is considered a stronghold of al-Qaida and Taliban fighters. There have been at least 40 such strikes in northwest Pakistan since September.

The United States has increased drone strikes in the region as part of the war against militants in neighboring Afghanistan.

U.S. officials do not acknowledge such attacks, which are often criticized by Pakistani officials as a violation of their country’s sovereignty.
