Wikileaks Announces New Document Release

The controversial whistle-blowing website Wikileaks announced Monday it is planning to publish almost 3 million more secret documents.

Wikileaks made the announcement on its Twitter page. It said the next document dump would be seven times larger than the 400,000 documents it released on the Iraq war.

The Twitter post gave no information about the content of the documents or timing of the release, beyond saying that there had been “intense pressure over it for months.” The post links to the website’s donation page.

A follow-up Tweet suggested the documents would be published in “coming months.”

The last two mass releases on the Iraq and Afghan conflicts sparked considerable anger in the Pentagon which says the publication of the classified material jeopardizes lives.

Wikileaks argues the reports shed light on the wars, including allegations of torture.

The news comes just days after an international warrant was issued for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange on charges of rape and molestation.

A Swedish court also has issued an order for Assange’s arrest. Assange says the charges are an attempt to discredit him and his organization.

Since 2006, Assange’s Wikileaks site has published almost a half-million secret U.S. documents on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It also has released secret material from other countries around the world.
