Ted Danson joins 'CSI' cast

Laurence Fishburne is out. And Ted Danson is in.

CBS has announced that the Cheers, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Damages favorite will join the cast of CBS' popular CSI in a series regular role in the fall. His character will debut in the Season 12 premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m.

Danson, who fills the slot left by Fishburne in May, will play the new CSI supervisor who is joining the team from a crime lab in Portland. He joins them as they are still grappling with the professional and personal fallout from last season's take-down of serial killer, Nate Haskell.

Danson will remain a series regular on HBO's Bored to Death series. He'll also be seen starring opposite Drew Barrymore and John Krasinsky in Everybody Loves Whales to be released in January 2012.
