Accused Somali Pirates Arrive in Malaysia

Seven accused Somali pirates, captured by Malaysian forces in a raid to free a hijacked chemical tanker, have arrived in Malaysia for possible prosecution.

The seven arrived Monday morning at Port Klang, south of the capital, Kuala Lumpur, and were taken under heavy guard to a police station and then a hospital.

The alleged pirates are accused of hijacking the tanker MT Bunga Laurel and its crew of 23 on January 20 in the Gulf of Aden.

Malaysian naval commandos from a vessel protecting shipping in the area retook the ship and captured the pirates a few hours later.

A day after the Malaysian raid, the South Korean navy captured five Somali pirates and killed eight during a mission to rescue a hijacked ship. On Sunday, those accused pirates arrived in South Korea and were formally arrested.
