Scottish Football Club Dundee Suffers 25-Point Penalty

Scottish football club Dundee has been deducted 25 points after entering administration, a form of bankruptcy protection, for the second time in seven years.

The club went into administration on October 14 after being unable to pay a tax bill of about $670,000. The Scottish Football League also imposed a transfer embargo on the team and said that Dundee’s position would be reviewed if it was not out of administration by March 31 of next year.

The punishment leaves the former European Cup semi-finalists at the bottom of Scotland’s First Division with minus 11 points, 20 behind nearest side Morton.

SFL chief executive David Longmuir said his organization took action “to protect the integrity and the ongoing smooth running of the league.”

Dundee administrator Bryan Jackson called the punishment “outrageous” and promised the club would appeal against the sanctions.

Dundee also went into administration in 2003, under then-owners Peter and James Marr.
