Israeli, Lebanese troops clash over border

JERUSALEM, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) exchanged fire with the Lebanese army along their border on Monday morning.

"There was an accident on the northern border this morning," an IDF spokeswoman told Xinhua.

Local media reported that one Labanese soldier was killed during the clash, with no confirmation from the IDF.

Neither side crossed the blue line, the UN-drawn border between Israel and Lebanon, the spokeswoman said, but she would not comment on the cause of the border clash.
