Moscow (CNN) -- A ship carrying 182 people sailing in Russia's Volga River sank on Sunday, leaving at least one person dead, emergency officials said.

Eighty-four people have been rescued, the Emergency Situations Ministry said.

The cruise ship "Bulgaria," with 125 passengers and 57 crew members, sank at about 2 p.m. (6 a.m. ET) in the Tatarstan region, the ministry said.

Two ships and two helicopters responded to the incident, near the village of Syukeyevo, about 50 miles south of the city of Kazan, he said. Kazan is about 450 miles east of Moscow.

The cause is not yet clear.
